Wedding Reception Insanity

When you start planning the wedding, first thing that pop up in mind is… WHERE IS THE WEDDING??

well, our ceremony is fairly easy, we decided to have our ceremony at Toronto CityHall. So one phone call, Done!

Now, Wedding Reception, where is it gonna be?

We looked up couple places

1. Metropolitan Hotel in Toronto
-we originally wantted there, but I realize the room is a bit too big for 60 people, and the price is not the cheapest in the world

2. Thompson Landry Gallery in Distillery District
-Beautiful gallery in the district, but after looking up all the quote from the caterer, now I really have to rethink it.
-why? Because to get a caterer to cater a place that is not “restaurant-oriented”, you are paying for those:

  • venue rental (TL gallery wants $1500 rental from 6pm to 1 am+$350 cleaning fee+$350 staffing fee+GST(5%)=$2310)
  • security fee ($28 per hour and minimum 4 hours)
  • liquor license=$25
  • insurance for the event=$50 to $60
  • $30.00 non-dancing or $50.00 dancing fee for the right to play background music during events (this is an Ontario wide SOCAN rule)
  • Permit to setup patio fencing outside the gallery =$70
  • Catering kitchen setup fee= around $2000 to $2500
  • Catering furniture rental fee= around $600?
  • 15% landmark fee on food and labor
  • Staffing fee (Chef, site coordinator, bartender and servers are between 28 to 32 bucks and hour, and usually minimum 6 hours)
  • The actual food runs between$40 to $60
  • We can bring our own alcohol
  • Hors D’oeuvres is around $12 to $15 per person
  • See the list of the quote I got from the caterers…

Those quote does NOT including Alcohol and the rental of the venue , and all other misc expenses..
    Isn’t that insane???

Seriously.. it’s too much!! too much!! Like we are spending 20K in a event for just 60 people? that’s just ridiculas!

3. Fairmont Royal York
It’s another hotel on Front street. It’s fairly luxurious, but they have fairly decent menu with pretty good pricing, so we’ll go check it out this friday
This is Royal york’s wedding package

  • packaged dinner range from $185 to $210 (taxes and gratituity included)

4. Pantages Hotel
It’s fairly new and modern hotel compare to Royal York or Metropolitan, so I am going to check this out later too
This is Pantages Hotel Wedding Package

5. Old Mill Inn
Apparently alot of people got married here because it’s victorian housing and humber river surrounding..
I am going to take a look of this as well. I got the wedding packages here from Old Mill. It’s a good pricing.

The wedded couple get to stay in their room for half price, and then 15% off for the guests..
